How Cranes Ship

Most cranes are too heavy and too large to move in one piece, so they break down into the carrier or crawler base, the boom in sections, the counterweights, and the rigging. Each component has its own weight and dimensions, and we plan the load list around them. A mobile all-terrain crane may drive itself to a nearby port, while a crawler crane ships entirely as components.

Domestic Crane Transport

Crane components move on flatbed, step-deck, and lowboy trailers sized to each piece, with the counterweights and base often needing multi-axle equipment. Our heavy haul trucking pulls the oversize permits and plans the route for the heaviest pieces.

International Crane Shipping

Overseas, crane components ship as breakbulk cargo on flat racks, by roll-on roll-off for self-propelled carriers, and in containers for the smaller components and rigging. We plan the lift and the stow so the pieces arrive ready to reassemble.

Preparing a Crane for Transport

Before shipping, we work the disassembly plan with your team, mark lift points and weights, secure hydraulics and fluids, and protect the boom sections and machinery from the elements. Sound export packing keeps the components intact across the road and the ocean.

Documentation and Customs

A crane shipment needs a commercial invoice, packing list, the correct classification, and export filing for qualifying values. We clear the cargo through our customs broker network and run loads to Australia, Germany, Canada, and Mexico, with cargo insurance on the value.
