A step-deck trailer, also called a drop-deck, is a flatbed with two deck heights: a short upper deck over the gooseneck and a longer lower deck behind it. The drop to the lower deck lets the trailer carry taller cargo than a standard flatbed while staying inside legal height limits. It suits machinery and equipment that would stand too tall on a flat deck but does not need the extreme low height of a lowboy.
Step-decks also carry built-in ramps for loading wheeled equipment. For taller or heavier units, a lowboy takes over. Texas International Freight arranges step-deck, lowboy, and multi-axle haulage for the road leg of heavy equipment moves.
