A telex release is a message from the origin agent or carrier to the destination office authorizing release of the cargo without presenting an original bill of lading. The shipper surrenders the original bills at origin, the carrier records it, and the destination releases the goods to the named consignee on that confirmation. The name dates from the days when the message was sent by telex.
A telex release prevents delay when original documents cannot reach the destination before the cargo does, which is common on short ocean routes. It needs the originals surrendered and any freight settled first. Texas International Freight coordinates telex release with the customs clearance so your cargo is not held at the port.
