Per ton over distance, rail and ocean win. Heavy haul trucking covers the first and last legs, and air freight only makes sense when downtime costs more than the airfreight premium, such as a part for an idle rig.
Do oversize loads need permits?
Yes. Each state issues its own oversize and overweight permits, and some routes add police or pilot-car escorts, bridge analyses, and travel-time restrictions. We file these before the truck rolls.
