A wellhead is the equipment assembly at the surface of an oil or gas well that seals the top of the well, anchors the casing strings, and provides the connection point for pressure control and production equipment. It supports the casing and tubing hangers, contains the well pressure, and gives access for the valves and fittings above it, including the assembly known as a Christmas tree. Wellheads are engineered to API specifications for the pressure and temperature of the well.
