What Is an SPMT (Self-Propelled Modular Transporter)?

An SPMT, or self-propelled modular transporter, is a computer-controlled multi-axle platform vehicle used to move extremely heavy and oversized loads short distances, such as around a port, fabrication yard, or job site. Each axle line steers and carries part of the load, and modules couple together side by side and end to end to build a deck sized to the cargo. Hydraulic suspension keeps the load level and spreads weight evenly, letting an SPMT move pieces weighing hundreds or thousands of tons.

SPMTs handle the cargo that defines project logistics: refinery modules, transformers, vessels, and bridge sections. They bridge the gap between the quay and the breakbulk vessel or final foundation. Texas International Freight coordinates heavy-transport and project moves from Houston worldwide.
