FAS, or Free Alongside Ship, is an Incoterm for ocean and inland waterway freight where the seller delivers the goods alongside the vessel at the named port of shipment, on the quay or on a barge within reach of the ship’s tackle. The seller clears the goods for export and bears cost and risk up to that point. From alongside the ship, the buyer takes over loading, the ocean freight, and everything after.
FAS fits bulk and heavy cargo that loads directly at the berth, which makes it common in breakbulk and project shipments. Texas International Freight handles FAS deliveries and explains the shipping terms so the handover at the quay is clean.
