Dunnage is the material placed around and beneath cargo to secure it, protect it, and keep it off the deck or container floor during transit. It can be timber, plywood, plastic, foam, inflatable airbags, or steel, and it does several jobs at once: spreading load, filling voids so cargo cannot shift, raising goods clear of moisture, and absorbing vibration. Proper dunnage is the difference between a machine that arrives intact and one that breaks loose at sea.
For heavy and oversized cargo, dunnage works together with lashing and bracing to immobilize the load. Texas International Freight handles professional export packing, blocking, and bracing so heavy equipment rides safely from origin to destination.
