What is OCTG?

OCTG stands for Oil Country Tubular Goods, the family of steel pipe used in oil and gas drilling and production. The category covers drill pipe, casing, tubing, and the connecting accessories that go downhole or carry hydrocarbons to the surface. OCTG is manufactured to American Petroleum Institute (API) specifications, with grades and connection types matched to well depth, pressure, and corrosion conditions.

Because OCTG ships in long, heavy, high-value bundles, it does not move like general cargo. Pipe travels by breakbulk on bolster-equipped vessels, in open-top and flat-rack containers, or in standard containers for shorter joints, with thread protectors fitted and bundles banded to prevent damage in transit. The main OCTG products are casing and tubing and drill pipe. Texas International Freight moves OCTG and drilling equipment from Houston, the center of the US oil and gas supply chain, to projects worldwide.
